03 — Accuracy
What the number does — and doesn't — include.
AC/01
Solid, simple geometry
Chamfers, radii, cross-holes and threads aren't included. For complex parts, treat the result as the weight of the enclosing shape.
AC/02
Midpoint density
Each grade is published as a density range; the calculator uses its midpoint. A real batch sits somewhere inside that range.
AC/03
Blank vs ground part
Sintered blanks carry grinding allowance. Our close sintering tolerances keep it small — but a finished, ground part still weighs a little less than its blank.

04 — Questions
Weight questions.
Q/01How do I calculate the weight of a tungsten carbide part?
Work out the part's volume, then multiply by the density of its grade. For a round rod, volume = π/4 × diameter² × length. A 10 mm × 50 mm rod is 3.93 cm³; at 14.55 g/cm³ (our CID10 grade) it weighs about 57 g. The calculator on this page does this for rods, tubes, flats, square and hex bars.
Q/02What is the density of tungsten carbide?
It depends on the grade, mainly on the cobalt content. Our published carbide grades range from about 13.12 g/cm³ (CID25, 25% cobalt) to 14.95 g/cm³ (6% cobalt grades). More cobalt means lower density.
Q/03How much heavier is tungsten carbide than steel?
Roughly 1.7 to 1.9 times heavier, depending on the grade — our carbide grades run from 13.12 to 14.95 g/cm³, against about 7.85 g/cm³ for steel.
Q/04Does the calculator work for tungsten copper?
Yes. Choose one of the four tungsten copper grades, T-60 to T-80, with published densities from 13.0 to 15.6 g/cm³ — or enter any density with the custom option.
Q/05Why might my actual part weigh slightly less than the calculation?
The calculation assumes a solid shape with no chamfers, holes or radii, and uses the midpoint of the grade's published density range. Sintered blanks also carry grinding allowance that is removed in finishing, so a ground part weighs a little less than its blank.
